Winston!

Winston!
The many faces of Winston

Winston struck an odd sleeping pose. He made a twist on his usual "flat belly on the tile floor with back legs kicked back" pose!
At the start of our walk, Winston grabbed Elliott's collar and leash and took off! At least this time it was not attached to Elliott! Now, how to get it back...?

Winston has the most powerful jaws so instead of giving in to his game, Mark traded him a treat for the collar!  Elliott was just happy that he escaped Winston's jaws...for a few minutes at least!

Practice, Practice, Practice!!

Mark and Winston practice "loose leash walking: "
Winston is doing fabulous with "loose leash walking" considering he is 14 wks old and there are sooooo many distractions on the walking path! Look at that !!!
Winston watching Mark and smiling!

I promise this is the last pic of "loose leash walking" but I love how Winston is looking up at Mark and smiling AND "loose leash walking!" COOL! Lindsey, our pet trainer, would be so proud!
Time to get brushed!

Now I am all fluffy!

Winston and Elliott: fellow bad boys! "We didn't do nuthin'!"

Hey, Am I Still Cute or What?

The Second Routine Vet Visit at 14 Weeks

This Friday was Winston’s 2nd Vet visit. As usual Winston was ready to get out of the house and go anywhere. Our vet was running a few minutes late, but Winston was ok with sitting on his Mom’s lap. Well, he was ok with sitting on Mom’s lap for about 2 nanoseconds and then he wanted more action. Kelli tried to subdue Winston by beating him repeatedly on his head with one of his favorite toys. Actually, she was barely touching him and he liked the distraction. Here he is smiling at her.

As Winston played he began to remember that he had been here before and there was some pain involved. About that time, an assistant arrived and asked Winston if he was ready for his shots.

“What??? Nobody said nothing about no shots!” Suddenly, Winston was a little bit apprehensive.

The assistant showed us to Room of Pain, Door #3. Dr. Coy arrived and tried to reassure Winston that his exam would be almost painless today. Winston was not convinced. Dr. Coy proceeded to give Winston a thorough exam from one end to the other. The south other end made Dr. Coy frown. He noted that Winston’s anal glands were a bit too full and needed expressing. Winston saw Dr. Coy donning the exam gloves and grimaced. Kelli and I grimaced too. Nobody, canine or human, likes to see a doctor don latex. Dr. Coy expertly removed quite a bit of smelly fluid from Winston’s rear end. Hopefully, this will provide some relief for him.

OUCH!!!

The shot was saved for last and Winston was administered another round of vaccinations. The shot was a piece of cake compared to the FINGER.

Dr. Coy asked us if we had any questions or concerns. We told him we had noted more eye buggers and scratching than we thought was normal. Dr. Coy took a look at Winston’s eyes and showed us how to do an eye exam: He showed us where the drainage ducts are, what colors we should see on the eyeballs and in the lids, what is normal drainage vs. abnormal and common problems/solutions. He didn’t find anything abnormal. He also gave us some tips on helping with an itchy coat.

Dr. Coy summed up the visit by saying Winston appears to be in great health and weighed in at 15.3 lbs. That means Winston is still adding more than a pound a week! Good boy, Winston!
(Note: You may be way ahead of me, but I just learned if you click a pic it will make it much bigger!)

Playful pup

Winston will be 14 weeks old tomorrow! Here he demonstrates the "patented Riley head tilt! " Winston's sire, Riley, made this look famous. We think Winston looks a lot like his papa.
Winston to Elliott: :Pssstttt!! Wanna play?"
Winston and Elliott are playing well together. I put this pic in to show how much Winston has grown! Elliott is about 25 lbs and we are estimating Winston to be around 13-15 lbs now. He will have his next vet check this week so we will have his weight then. (Silly dietitian does not have a scale!)

Winston continues to try the" attack from behind" method.

Total contentment: Winston still loves to sleep on his back!

Puppy in training!

Tonight was Winston's second puppy training class. He was able to see his old friends from last week. Here he is with Dexter. There were also two new doggies tonight: a Weimaraner and a Bichon Frise.
Menage a trois doggie style! ;-) Dexter, Winston and Shatzie

Winston practiced "sit" and "loose leash "walking tonight. He did fabulous with both! Here Winston and Mark practice down the aisles at Pet Smart for class. Winston had a great night and did really well! We are so proud of him!

Water baby, no, wait... mud baby!!

We have a pond on the lower one that Winston has recently discovered. He seems drawn to the water. Here he is checking it out:
Winston thinks "this is kinda nice, there are bugs in here to chase!"
"Wow!! Look at this cool stick!" Looks like he is a natural!

After his little swim Winston discovered a mud hole from the irrigation system. "This is even more fun that swimming!!

Winston had a co-conspirator. Mostly the mud was rubbed off onto Elliott while Winston was playing with El.

Baths all around! Carly kept her distance. She thinks these boys are soo silly!
