Happy Fall!

Winston received a Halloween toy from his doggie cousins Barclay and Deliah.

Everyone is in the costume: 3 Watch Dogs.

Winston made his first trip away to the woods this weekend with Mark. Although Winston's tracking skills were not needed this weekend, he had a great time and was very well behaved.

I probably posted this before but I had to include it since it is one of my favorites. Happy fall everyone!

Tricks, Licks and Treats!

Winston accompanied us to my parents today. He had a close encounter with one of the cows! He was licked!

This goat (they named her Stranger) just appeared one day and she now hangs out with the cows since no one claimed her. Weird, huh?!

Winston also saw the horses. He liked them better than the cows.

Winston helped me make the pesto.

Carly searched for vermin in the leaves.

Another tough week at the office for Winston!
Soo tired from all those tax returns!

Look at these cool dog cookies our wonderful friend Annette gave us! So cute! Trick or Treat???!!

What 5 weeks post op looks like!

Winston is moving into his fifth week post op! He has done so well with his recovery! He has been a good little patient, too. It has been tough on him (and us!) to follow the doctors orders of no running, no jumping, no roughhousing and Mark always adds no having fun! After all, Winston is still a puppy (9months) even though he looks like a full grown dog.

I also took a few shots of Winston in the flower garden tonight. I will try to only add a few!

Contemplating the flowers and  life!

Here are a few shots of Winston's garden view.

Winston is still spending most of the day going to work with Mark during the week.

Winston is really good with office supplies.

Working for a CPA is tough!

We also did some tracking training yesterday with Winston. Mark laid a moderately difficult track for him and Winston took me on an adventure to "find it!"  Winston did a great job! He found the missing hankie!

Winston was so proud of his hard work!

What a great dog! We are hoping that Winston will be cleared for more activity soon! We will keep you all posted!

Shop til ya drop!

We got all ready for Winston's Tuesday night class and then remembered that Lindsey was on vacation so class was postponed! OOPS!!!! We had done all that homework too and we were ready to show off Winston's progress.  So..... we shopped!

Winston checked out the canaries.

And he and Mark practiced!

Winston spotted the Halloween costumes!!

This is the one Winston chose in the pic above! He looks pretty cute!

Ayyyyyy, matey!!! I sorta like the pirate.

But, he was insulted by the pig costume! Look at that expression!

Winston also tried on a new harness. We needed one that was easier to put on him when he is so excited about tracking.

Some more fall photos!

Big Weekend!

Winston is back in his obedience classes. This past week we practiced "front", "side" and "finish it" as well as commands with hand signals versus verbal commands.

This is me trying to do "finish it!" It is harder for the person than the dog!

Mark tries "finish it!"

Winston had some more grooming this week.  Mark took some hair off Winston's face and now he looks like a little puppy again!

Look at that face!!! Notice that his hair is growing back on his legs, too!

Elliott and Mark playing.

Carly in the flower garden.

We all went to another EarthDog training session this weekend. (A big thanks to Norma for having us again! ) Elliot had a great training day and made it to the rat and engaged the rat in the 30 seconds.  Carly was not as keen about the tunnels today. She thinks it is so silly that she has to go through all these "hoops" to get the rat when she knows the shortest distance to get there is over the top!  Winston did bark at the rat but he is not allowed to try the tunnels yet because of his healing legs.

Winston has resigned himself to the Red Baron.  He does not like it but it is still a necessary (evil!) for him.

He still wants to see what is going on outside! He is going into 4 weeks post-op and doing great!

Pumpkin Patch Kids!

This week we took some photos of the doggies for fall. It is quite a chore to have them all looking the same direction with their ears up! We took a lot of pics and we have a few that were pretty cute!

Winston poses in every photo! We always say we can never take a bad photo of him. It is hard to believe he is 4 weeks post op!

Convalescing!

Winston is 24 days post op and convalescing quite nicely. Here, he poses with a stuffed monkey he received from our great friend Annette when he was a puppy.  So far, it appears that Winston is not limping!!! YAY! We are hoping this is an excellent sign in his recovery. He does still have a plodding, awkward gait but his previous lameness is barely detectable most of the time. Also, the hair on his legs is growing back quickly, as well as at the flank incision. Winston has been a super patient! He has quite a few limitations on his activity still and he has really taken it all in stride.

All the dogs went for more Earthdog training this weekend. A good time was had by all.   Carly and Elliott both ran a 30' tunnel and engaged a rat!  This is the first step in earning a junior earthdog title.

Winston wasn't allowed to attempt the tunnel, but instead started back on his tracking training.  He followed 2 moderately difficult tracks and successfully located a lost hanky and a glove.

Winston received a very special package this week! His doggie grandparents sent him an enormous antler! Thank you Henschel Family with special thanks to grandaddy Andy!!! We also want to thank everyone who has called, emailed, sent gifts, cards or  thought about Winston during his recovery. We so appreciate it.

Winston has started Obedience 3.  This class is structured to help students pass their therapy dog certificate.  The pic below captures Winston with Lindsey and Mariah for the "reaction to another dog" part of the Canine Good Citizen test. Stay tuned for Winston's progress in this endeavor.
