The Second Routine Vet Visit at 14 Weeks

This Friday was Winston’s 2nd Vet visit. As usual Winston was ready to get out of the house and go anywhere. Our vet was running a few minutes late, but Winston was ok with sitting on his Mom’s lap. Well, he was ok with sitting on Mom’s lap for about 2 nanoseconds and then he wanted more action. Kelli tried to subdue Winston by beating him repeatedly on his head with one of his favorite toys. Actually, she was barely touching him and he liked the distraction. Here he is smiling at her.

As Winston played he began to remember that he had been here before and there was some pain involved. About that time, an assistant arrived and asked Winston if he was ready for his shots.

“What??? Nobody said nothing about no shots!” Suddenly, Winston was a little bit apprehensive.

The assistant showed us to Room of Pain, Door #3. Dr. Coy arrived and tried to reassure Winston that his exam would be almost painless today. Winston was not convinced. Dr. Coy proceeded to give Winston a thorough exam from one end to the other. The south other end made Dr. Coy frown. He noted that Winston’s anal glands were a bit too full and needed expressing. Winston saw Dr. Coy donning the exam gloves and grimaced. Kelli and I grimaced too. Nobody, canine or human, likes to see a doctor don latex. Dr. Coy expertly removed quite a bit of smelly fluid from Winston’s rear end. Hopefully, this will provide some relief for him.

OUCH!!!

The shot was saved for last and Winston was administered another round of vaccinations. The shot was a piece of cake compared to the FINGER.

Dr. Coy asked us if we had any questions or concerns. We told him we had noted more eye buggers and scratching than we thought was normal. Dr. Coy took a look at Winston’s eyes and showed us how to do an eye exam: He showed us where the drainage ducts are, what colors we should see on the eyeballs and in the lids, what is normal drainage vs. abnormal and common problems/solutions. He didn’t find anything abnormal. He also gave us some tips on helping with an itchy coat.

Dr. Coy summed up the visit by saying Winston appears to be in great health and weighed in at 15.3 lbs. That means Winston is still adding more than a pound a week! Good boy, Winston!
(Note: You may be way ahead of me, but I just learned if you click a pic it will make it much bigger!)
